Skin Care Techniques

If you thought cream, lotions, toners and moisturizers are the only skin care products, think again. There are various types of equipments that are used by cosmetic surgeons and dermatologists. Each tool has a different function. What will be used depends on the kind of skin problem you have.

Dermabrasion is one technique that requires tools. There can be several tools involved in this process. But the most common tool is a wire brush. This helps to get rid of wrinkles and also remove the rough edges of blemishes and keeps the skin smooth.

Dermabrasion is a kind of a surgery. During the surgery the patient is first given a tranquilizer and then a local anesthesia. The patient’s face is bandaged for 24 hours. It takes about 10 days to recover.

Dermaplaning is similar to dermabrasion. This technique uses a tool that looks almost like a razor. This cleans off the skin around blemish.

Microdermabrasion requires specialized tools. The key ingredients that are used in this treatment are crystals made of nutshells, sodium bicarbonate and even wood. A steady stream of crystals are applied to the problem areas. This is done to remove dead skin and help new skin to grow. This technique is used for problems like acne, wrinkles, fine lines, etc.

Laser is perhaps the most popular of all the skin care methods. This treatment can remove scars, blemishes and wrinkles. Laser treatment uses beam of light that actually burns the skin of the problem area.

There are different types of laser treatments available, among which Carbon Dioxide is considered as the best, as it is very advanced. This procedure requires high energy light that removes blotch but does not harm the skin. The skin remains intact. It is less time consuming and it has less chance of scarring or any other skin problem.

Another very effective laser treatment is Erbium later also known as the Er laser. This treatment removes layers of tissue. This is sued for wrinkle and scars. Remember this is not for severe wrinkle and scar.

Now you know which treatment to go for if you are having problems with your skin.

Causes And Prevention Of Sagging Skin

Causes And Prevention Of Sagging Skin

As we age, wrinkles appear and our facial skin begins to sag. With so many products and processes available, it becomes difficult to decide which one to select to make the skin taut and smooth.

Surgical procedures are available to tightening your skin but these procedures have their own drawbacks. They are not only expensive, but you will have to be under the scalpel more than once to get the desired result. Thereafter it becomes a recurring process. Therefore before surrendering yourself to a dermatologist, it is better that you try some specific products that help in regaining your youthful look.

      Reason for skin sagging

Our skin contains two proteins which keeps the skin smooth and elastic. One is collagen which is a protein of connective tissue and is responsible for keeping the skin smooth, and the other is elastin which helps to keep the skin flexible and tight providing a bounce-back reaction to the skin. Then there is this coenzyme Q10 which is a non-protein chemical compound bound to the collegen and elastin and is responsible for their biological activity.

When we are young, collagen and elastin are produced in abundance keeping the skin smooth and tight. As we grow old, our body’s ability to produce these proteins diminishes and exposure to sun’s ultraviolet rays depletes the coenzyme from the skin making our skin sag.

Product to choose to tighten loose skin

Now we should choose a product that has the ability to regenerate collagen, elastin and coenzyme Q10 in sufficient quantity. The product should be able to penetrate deep into the layers of skin to produce the required amount of proteins to have the desired effect.

Some products are now being produced using the nono-technology which have the ability to penetrate deep into the skin due to their tiny molecular size. But this expensive technology is not being used by most manufacturers. So you should be very careful while shopping for such products.

Natural Vs Traditional Makeup Products

Natural Vs Traditional Makeup Products

What price are you willing to pay for beauty? We all think we would pay anything but sometimes the price is too high.

Some have got tired of being forced to risk their health for makeup and have turned to more natural cosmetics.

Why the Chemicals Are Bad for Your Skin

The majority of skin care products being sold today are filled with chemicals that serve as preservatives, antibacterials and smell producers; all of which the human body can do without.  Some of these additives have been responsible for women developing extremely high estrogen levels, disorders of the nervous system, organ toxicity and various forms of cancer as well as neurological disorders.

      Promises of Safe Cosmetics

There has long since been a battle for cosmetics to be better regulated. The battle is also for companies to develop natural, herbal alternatives to the chemical filled products. The Unites States FDA and the European Union have been working to have makeup companies sign the Compact for Safe Cosmetics.

The American Food and Drug Administration has been negotiating with makeup companies but there has been no solution yet. The European Union has been more successful in its fight. It has gotten these harmful chemicals banned and keeps a very watchful eye on the European cosmetics companies that have signed the Compact.

      Herbal Alternatives Abound

If you are interested in herbal makeup alternatives, you should look for companies that have agreed to the terms of the Compact. These companies have agreed not to include any ingredients that are suspected of being dangerous to human beings. There are several companies that fall under this Compact.

You might have noticed that the skin of a woman who wears a lot of makeup looks leathery and worn-out. This is because the chemicals and preservatives in the makeup also promote premature wrinkling and aging and clog your pores. By eliminating the additives the makeup is actually better for your skin.

In looking for natural makeup, it is important to be educated about the dangerous ingredients. The FDA’s website is a wonderful resource for finding out about the ingredients and the companies that have signed the Compact.  Look for makeups that have a plant-base and ingredients that you can pronounce and understand. Two great ingredients for natural cosmetics are phytessence wakame and functional keratin.

Common Skin Care Myths

With an increasing emphasis on beauty and age defiance in North American society, everyone seems to be seeking ways to make themselves appear younger by taking better care of their skin. While it is true that skin is one of the keys to a healthy, youthful appearance, not all skin care treatments that are proposed, or even that are popular, are effective. Here are some of the top myths when it comes to skin care.

1) Acne

Acne is the bane of everyone from their teenage years and onward. There are so many false rumors out there concerning acne that an article could be written on them alone. To start with, acne does not cease miraculously when you are out of your teens. In some people, acne is a perpetual problem and will continue throughout their lives. Many of the false ideas about acne are extremely detrimental to people who are afflicted with the condition. Acne is not a sign that an individual does not wash their face. In fact, many individuals with acne will be told this by their peers and the result will be extremely counter-productive; they end up washing their faces too much. The dryer skin does not clear out the acne problem, instead it exacerbates it. Acne may be aggravated by certain foods in an individual?s diet, but rarely are the ?suspect foods? (chocolate, French fries, or pizza) the main trigger. Finally, remember that acne can be treated by several types of medicine on the market today-and effectively- so it is all right to go to your doctor and consult her about acne treatments.

2) Tanning

Tanning is often advertised as adding a warm, healthy glow to your skin. The truth is, nothing is worse for your skin than direct exposure to the harmful ultraviolet rays that are necessary to tan, whether you are on a bed or in the sun. Tanning may help to get rid of formed acne, but it will not prevent new pores from clogging. Tanning has little benefits beyond immediate aesthetic appeal, and in the long run it will prove harmful to your skin. It is best to use sun block whenever you are out in the sun.

3) Moisturizers

Many people think that moisturizers will help in making their skin appear more youthful by getting rid of wrinkles. This is not the case. Moisturizers will help to lubricate the skin and lessen dryness, but they will not serve to repair the microscopic damage at the cell level that wrinkles represent.

4) Skin Care ingredients

For many years, top beauticians have placed slices of cucumber over the eyes of their clients in order to reduce skin damage and swelling. Today, you will find many products on the shelves that depict a cucumber or slice of cucumber and claim to include cucumber extracts that will help rejuvenate your skin. The fact is that it is not any particular mineral in the cucumber that is beneficial to the skin, it is the fact that cucumbers are mostly made of water, which leeches into the skin during the process and gives the appearance of re-invigoration.

All of these myths are used today to help sell products via a method known as scare tactics. In fact, if you follow the advice of your doctor most of your skin care needs will be resolved, and they will not require a lot of home grown methods and wives tale rumors.
